The artist has handed over the full amount of his £25k award cash to the MVT, which functions to save the UK's small music venues.

He was given the cheque on October 16 as his latest record People Watching was named the best record of the previous year.

Fender has decided to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the crucial part grassroots venues played in his early career.

"I personally would not have achieved my current career if it wasn't for all the performances I did around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," said Sam Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – about 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, well-known musicians like the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by adding a small levy to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also joined in, raising in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to assist thirty-eight local spots across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money assisted spaces that were confronting potential shutdown due to difficulties caused by floods, fires and personal losses, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Other venues obtained monetary aid in modernizing infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted artists and concertgoers.

"The concept that funds from performances in big venues supports the local stages, where it begins for artists like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has said.

The musician is among several artists to contribute his honor winnings to worthy causes.

When Pulp earned the award in the mid-90s for their album their work, vocalist the singer stated that the group would give their prize money to the organization War Child.

During 2002, artist Ms Dynamite shared her award across a few good causes, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I contributed a thousand pounds to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they required better apparatus," Ms Dynamite told outlets.

Previously, the band contributed their winnings to the youth organization that nurtured their act, alongside other independent music bodies.

And winners that year they donated their prize to a MS organization after a friend was identified with the disease.

"Winning was quite enough," stated singer Small. "The prize was the bonus but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the honor. So our winning impacted another person's life."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had rescued two local spots in that region, by bringing them into public stewardship.

One venue in the city and the other in the city were purchased under the community ownership program, which is funded by a national body and music fans who purchase "shares" in the buildings.
